Shared Leadership Team (SLT)
F3’s mission is to plant, grow, and serve small workout groups for the invigoration of male community leadership. Each man contributes his gifts to the organization in different ways. The shared leadership team model shared the burden while identifying responsible PAX.
F3 is a starfish organization with a decentralized leadership structure. Each level of the movement is roughly shaped like the ones above and below it while being tailored to the local needs. Men in F3 are Freed to Lead. We don’t use some of the leadership roles that the nation does, and we define some of our roles differently to suit the needs of the PAX and community. A standard F3 interaction goes something like this:
PAX, “We should really do X.”
Response from leadership, “That’s a really cool idea, how about you Q (lead) it?”
Leadership positions in F3 are a “leadership laboratory” where you can comfortably court failure. Failure is the best way to learn! These lessons and experiences then carry over into other areas of life where you will have stronger community leadership. Leaders must be Proximate in order to be Effective, each leaders’ span of control and accountability should not exceed the span of men or tasks he cannot personally connect with.
The fourth core principle of F3 is “Peer led in a rotating fashion”. This applies to leadership positions as much as workouts. Therefore, there are no “term limits” on the positions. PAX must identify junior leaders who will inherit their position. A virtuous leader does not develop good followers; they grow better leaders. F3 has a strong emeritus program where the most rewarding part of leadership is to step back into the ranks and see the leader you trained take the organization to new heights.
Here are the current PAX in leadership roles:
Nant’an: Piglet
The Q and spiritual figurehead of the Region, who represents but does not govern
Embodies the ideals of F3 leadership and inspires the PAX
Keeps an eye “up and out” to what F3 Nation is doing next and where the regions next “43 feet” of road are taking us
It’s his problem
Encourages individual initiative in the PAX to accelerate the region
1st F (Fitness) Q: Playdate
Ensures the smooth running of the AOs with the goal of increasing fitness
Mentors AO Qs, makes sure they are doing their jobs (through meetings if necessary)
Develops new AO Qs, usually through Q Schools
Helps to plan and execute CSAUPs (Completely Stupid and Utterly Pointless events that are usually longer/harder than a normal beatdown and for some unknown reason build stronger teams)
Works with the Nan’tan (and Weasel Shaker) to look at growth opportunities to plant new AOs
2nd F (Fellowship) Q: Archie (East)
Mr. Party Pants. Whether it be Coffeeteria, family picnics, or Christmas Parties, this is the guy who makes the donuts
Gets PAX motivated and excited about Fellowshipping together
3rd F (Faith) Q: Pellegrino
Seeks to understand the needs and wants of his Pax.
He can plant anything from a weekly Bible Study to an open discussion group to a regular community service opportunity for Pax
Essential to the real mission of F3: Male community leadership that makes an impact.
Weasel Shaker: Playdate
One of the most underappreciated roles, the Weasel Shaker is responsible for making sure the pax are all carrying out their responsibilities (shaking the PAX trying to weasel out)
Keeps his ear to the ground by attending multiple different AOs, and his finger on the pulse of the Pax with the Region
For example, Wednesday numbers are really high, might be time to split the workout; or, I’ve plotted all the Pax houses on this map and it looks like we could use an AO on the other side of town
IT Q: Bubbles
Trains PAX and manages IT tasks to make leadership coordination easier between PAX.
Keeps the technical infrastructure of the region running, namely this website.
Administer the Slack space and interface with F3 Nation App.
Not a professional! Looking for anyone that is interested to take on the challenge by spring of 2027.
Commz Q: Funny Car
Makes sure PAX stay connected to one another: 2nd F does not end at the AO or monthly lunch and male community leadership doesn’t work without a community
Twitter, Slack, Newsletters, etc. are the tools he uses (should be reasonably tech-savvy)
Site/AO Qs: See list on our Locations page
The F3 Ambassadors: every man’s first impression of F3 will likely be guided by the work of these men where the rubber meets the road
Ensures adherence to core principles by being there (proximate) at every opportunity
Trains and mentors Qs for peer leadership in a rotating fashion, including encouraging schedule signups and picking up the 6 to Q if nobody volunteers, coaching pre-blasts and verifying backblasts get posted
Monitors site safety and conditions, reminds Qs to state the disclaimer daily.
Sells the AO, the Qs, and the Mission of F3
Here are some open positions that other regions use. If one looks interesting to you, let us know!
Expansion Q
Seeks opportunity to plant and grow F3 in the area
Monitor site attendance and encourage AOQs to split workouts before they are ready, even when it’s scary
Map a plan with the SLT for specific growth goals and action steps
Firestarter (Culture) Q
Steeped in the source materials of F3 culture: Freed to Lead, QSource, Zebra Jockey, Minivan Centurion, Lexicon/Exicon, Nation website, and various F3 podcasts
Travels regularly to as many AOs across the Region as possible to keep a pulse on the culture
Demonstrate, promote, and protect F3 culture with love, directness, and grace
